Diary of Unknown Symptoms

Mystery of the Internal Vibration

Entry for August 10, 2007

For the record, I thought I’d repost the blog entry that includes the report from the iridologst last year.

Body Systems

Digestive: This system shows lack of tone at the cecum reflexing the pancreas and the descending reflexing the heart and upper abdomen. There are no signs of the autonomic nervous wreath at the cecum (reflexing pancreas), the descending (reflexing the upper abdomen) and the sigmoid (reflexing the lower abdomen, the pelvis and the small intestines (reflexing the low back) on the left iris and the cecum on the right. In these areas there is a minimal nerve transmission which would therefore make these areas weaker. This system also shows signs of significant diet abuse and possible yeast indications. Healing lines are starting to happen especially in the esophagus, ascending, transverse and sigmoid colon, small intestines and the pancreas.

Nervous: This system shows a tendency to general exhaustion and general state of anxiety even though the patient projects a calm demeanor. These two qualities may have emerged with the recent illness however, numerous cramp rings suggest otherwise. Radicals denoting sluggish impulse at the transverse reflex the cerebellum, subcortex, the limbic and sympathetic nervous system and well as the adrenal gland. Again, there are the beginning signs of healing at the pituitary, pineal, conceptual mind, the cerebellum and the sinuses. There are also indications of drug imbediment in the head area, but this too shows healing signs.

Cardiovascular: This system shows vulnerability to problems due to genetics and diet abuse in the past. The area where is heart is in the iris shows a large and deep lacuna with healing signs. There are also indications of vascular plaque and fatty buildup, sluggish circulation with a potential for serious cardiovascular problems, and a weakened and possibly anemic state. Although there was no mention of cardiovasular problems, this system needs to be addressed with immediacy.

Endocrine: This system shows an anxiety line running through the adrenal on both irises and a staircase lacuna at the pancreas on the right. Although this seems to cause an immune compromise to the system, there are healing lines. There are also indications of healing lines at the thyroid. The prostate though shows possible imbalance.

Immune/Lymphatic/Respiratory: The Immune System shows the effects of longterm use of medications for allergies. However, there are healing lines in the respiratory (trachea, tonsils), the endocrine (parathyroid), and the lower jaw and sinus. There are indications of an imbalance in the Respiratory System especially in the bronchioles and at the throat.

Urinary: This system may also be vunerable due to it’s close connection to the heart and cardiovascular system and to it’s function of filtering toxins. The kidney shows a huge lacuna, congestion and pathogenic activity at the bladder and tissue hardening. However, there are healing lines in these two organs.

Muscular/Skeletal: There are indications of connective tissue breakdown and possible effects of long term use of medications in this system. Some areas of the iris show high tissue acidity or inflammation.

Here is the picture of my right iris. Lots of holes… I was in a lot of trouble…and might still be.

Just looking at it…it doesn’t even look healthy. I’ve really got to get some new pictures so I can compare. Other than the “anxiety”, I think I’m doing really good these days with my diet.

Here is the picture of my left iris. It blows my mind that there is such a hole to the right of the pupil for the heart and my stressed adrenals at the bottom.

Got a reply from the iridologist and she sent my pictures!!! WOW!!!

It was unbelievable to see the “holes” in my iris right where she said it would be. There is no doubt in my mind that iridology is the key to preventative health care. Now I just have to take a picture of my iris now to compare.

She even sent the photos of the sclera!

Back from the Iridologist. I have my iridology report from last year and my camera. I’m hoping that she’ll let me take some photos of the foot bath to record the progress.

She starts by asking me a bunch of generic health questions and fills out a form as we go. I answer her questions but I don’t go into too much detail for each question. At the end of the questionnaire, she takes a picture of each iris. The pictures are not that great and I show her how to use the camera in macro mode. I’m a little worried at this point but she is also unhappy with the results and switches to an iridology machine that looks like a huge microscope. She records my iris markings on a iridology iris chart and comments on the anxiety and stressed adrenals. She also mentions that she sees white marks on my liver and kidneys. She asks me if there is a genetic heart condition in my family: Nope none. She doesn’t say anything more but I know that the previous iridology reading had mentioned the same thing.

I already knew about the stressed adrenals and I’ve changed my lifestyle and added vitamins and minerals for the past year with little results. So I asked her how long it would take to correct the stressed adrenals. Her response? TWO YEARS!

She continues and makes a comment on the thyroid and asks if I have taking anything for thyroid support. I’ve never taken anything to support the thyroid and she explains that this could be one of the reasons for my low energy. She suggests taking a multi glandular support supplement for the thyroid and adrenals. As we get into get into a bit more detail, I mention about magnesium and mitral valve prolapse. Turns out, she has MVP as well! I continue and mention Plantar Fasciitis and she has that as well. Then I explain how I believe the two are connected from a lack of blood circulation and how it disappeared taking niacin for a few days.

She was very interested in my research and asked me if I had thought about getting into the health industry because I seemed so knowledgeable.

We talked about my discovery with zinc and copper and I explain about how I had a hard time with the ratio. She suggested alternating the dosage every other day. One day of zinc, copper the next. She tried kinesiology on a few of her supplements and I really didn’t show anything in a strong kind of way. I’ve always found that kinesiology is a bit of a hokey kind of science but I don’t fully understand how it works…

After about 30 minutes, she takes my to another room for the Ion Foot Bath. I ask her if I can take some photos and she doesn’t mind. I place my feet in some really warm water and away we go!!

No vibration again this morning. Three days in a row. I won’t get too excited as I’ve had this happen before but I’ll just keep doing what seems to be working.

My iridology appointment is tonight and I’m really looking forward to it. What has me interested even more is the Ion Foot Bath. I’ve seen it advertised in health food stores and to be quite honest, I’ve been skeptical. Tonight, I’ll try it for myself. So I did some googling to find out some more information. It’s supposed to have an effect on candida and blood circulation.

Detox Foot Bath – How does it work?

It is a detox water foot bath which uses brass and stainless steel electrodes. It is used as a foot bath to cleanse, balance and enhance the bio-energy [the vital energy force present in the breath of bodily fluids]. This energy is the electro-magnetic force that is stored within the body and utilized by our cells. Chinese medicine refers to this energy as the “chi”. The complex energy fields permeate and realign the body’s energy field while improving oxygen levels. While the foot bath is widely used to increase energy [both physical and mental energy], vitality, and stamina, at the same time, it purges [detoxifies] the body of toxins, chemicals, radiation, pollution, synthetics, and other foreign material trapped in the skin layers that have clogged up the body’s systems of elimination. Its internal cleansing includes parasite cleansing and liver detoxification, which results in less body fluid retention, reduced inflammation, improved memory, greater bladder control, a more balanced pH, a stronger immune system and significant pain relief, including headaches, gout and arthritis pain.

As believed in Reflexology, each foot is actually a channel, a conduit, through which your body attempts to cleanse itself of toxic wastes and heavy metals that are building up in many parts of your body. During the foot bath, you will actually see the cleansing process take place as the water interacts with a compound electric current and magnetic field structure. This body cleansing process results in the correct frequency required for cells to return to a healthy state, and to release waste that has been bonded to them over the years. This detoxification therapeutic procedure also enhances the effects of other therapies. This unit is among the best detox products available.

What happens during a detox foot bath?

You immerse your feet in warm water. The machine is set to the correct settings and ionization levels. Then you sit back and relax for 20-35 minutes while the machine completes its cycle. You’ll see the excreted toxins, including parasites, in the water. The water will change color and consistency from orange, brown through to black — due to the release of toxic substances through the 2000 pores on the sole of each foot. There may be lymphatic fat or mucous floating on the water. Each therapeutic session lasts about 20-35 minutes, and should be taken every 2-3 days until the water is finally clear. The clear water will indicate that the body is clear of toxins at that time. Detoxification is usually complete within 5 -7 procedures over the course of 2-3 weeks. Note: Depending on your geographical region, the water may not change colors, but the same detoxification effects still occur.

What is the significance of color? Believe it or not, it is important to eat a variety of colorful foods in order to assure balanced chemistry. Every color is a chemical and has a chemical value. Chemical components of foods contribute to their acid-alkaline balance. As a general rule, Green Foods nourish the immune system, especially the liver and gall bladder. Red Foods nourish the endocrine system, including the pituitary gland, as well as the heart and small intestines. Orange Foods nourish the joints. Yellow Foods nourish the digestive system, including the spleen, stomach, and pancreas. White Foods nourish the respiratory system, namely the lungs, but also the large intestines, lymphatic system and skin. Black Foods nourish the circulatory system, kidneys and bladder. By the same token, when the water is changing colors, each color represents the part of the body that is being detoxified. One of the most visual effects is the discoloration of the water, but while the color changes in the water can be dramatic, it is not the most important factor and one must be careful about making any judgment’s based only on the water color.

What healing benefits can be gained?

The human body is electric because our cells are electric. Disorders and diseases of the body have vibrational frequencies that are incompatible with healthy cells; thus, they disrupt the cells’ natural oscillation and polarity. This disruption creates imbalance and chaos within each affected cell. When cells are in an imbalanced state, they are unable to facilitate the body’s functions needed for healing, including ridding itself of heavy metals, parasites and other toxins. But when cells are fully charged, they have more oxygen and are able to experience electrical balance, which results in a feeling of a healthy attitude, vitality, well-being, and enables the body to heal itself. This balance increases our sense of awareness and our sense of the mind/body/spirit connection. Darkfield studies have shown the machine significantly improves oxygen levels.

Studies show that an overall balancing effect occurs, along with a significant increase in the number of negative ions. Ions are atoms or molecules that have lost or gained electrons [Free radicals are unpaired electrons]. If the atoms or molecules lose electrons, they become positively charged ions. If they gain electrons, they become negatively charges ions. The ionic technique of cleansing thru feet provides a full body purge of all vital organs, resulting in reduced menopause symptoms, menstrual cramps, sexual health problems, skin problems, acne, sleep problems, restlessness, stress, toothaches, vaginal dryness, wrinkles, candida and yeast infections. The internal cleansing also results in faster disease healing and injury recovery.

Water has an almost perfect balance of positive and negative ions. Since the body is composed of about 70% water, its ability to interact with water is very high. When you immerse a body mass into water, the vibrational frequency of the water will affect the vibrational frequency of the body due to the interaction of the magnetic and electrical fields. Consequently, the Aqua Chi Detoxification Foot Spa unit is one of the best detox products. It is an exceptionally wonderful and natural healing tool. It is painless, with no drugs, and no harmful side effects.

After reading the iridology report, it has me a little scared. I need to fix these problems now. I start googling for an iridologist in Markham and I find the first one and make the call. We talk about the cost and the method of treatment. She uses herbs and supplements so there is no sign of aromatherapy. Her price is reasonable and she will take the pictures and provide the treatment on the first visit. She also mentions the Nutri-body questionaire and the toxin foot bath.

I’ve heard about this foot bath before and I’m curious to know more. She says it takes 30 minutes and people always mention about the amount of energy after the treatment. This is definately something I need. I make the appointment for Wednesday evening.

Here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then I start reading the iridology report. It’s almost been one year and I had totally forgotten about the specific details in the report and knowing my new discoveries, I’m still in deep trouble. After reading the report, it is definitely the most accurate. Anyone who has any interest in your health should seriously research iridology and have a professional reading done.

I feel like an idiot for not continuing with the treatment. Interesting note? She mentions a possible imbalance with the prostate and what mineral supports the prostate? ZINC! And it was never ever mentioned…

I find it mildly amusing that a complete physical exam from a medical doctor turns up everything as normal and the alternative approach makes it sound like I have only months to live! Here’s the report:

I take a quick picture of each iris and take a close look at them. They look exactly the same as last time with no obvious change. How is that possible with all of the vitamins that I’ve been taking? There are still signs obvious signs of anxiety and stressed adrenals. I’ve been taking B vitamins for over a year!

There must be something else and I’m guessing that I’m not taking the right supplements to correct the deficiencies.

Received the confirmation email from GeroVital this morning. The B2 injection is on it’s way!!!

I manged to take four SISU Multi-Vi-Min capsules throughout the day and by the late afternoon, I am starting to feel the difference. The real test will be to see if I have the vibration but my eyes are feeling so much better than a few days ago.

My book on Iridology is due back next week so I’m looking through it for anything I may have missed. I have a page bookmarked where he talks about a person named Father Kneipp. He developed a water treatment as a means of curing illness.

Sebastian Kneipp, who developed water treatment as a means of curing illness, was a German priest who lived from 1827-1897. As a young man, the doctors pronounced him terminally ill with a lung disease. But he wouldn’t accept their prognosis. Sebastian Kneipp wanted to live, and when he found, by chance, a booklet in the Munich library call Cold Water Treatments by Sigmund Hahn, he decided to try it.

The treatments worked. His health stabilized. He got well, well enough that he in turn cured other people. Poor and rich alike flocked to receive the water cure and advice of the not too friendly, but warmhearted healer-priest who never asked for any payment.

When Father Kneipp first started giving his treatments at the monastery in Woerishofen (near Munich), the town was no more than a sleepy village. Over the years it grew into a world famous spa city.

Father Kneipp expanded on the original work of Sigmund Hahn. To it he added his vast knowledge of herbs and natural foods. An entire system, of water treatments, baths, steam baths and wrappings, was developed. To pass on his knowledge he wrote several books, My Water Cure, That’s How They Shall Live and My Testament and Codicil are the most well known of these. The man who was supposed to die at an early age lived to a very fruitful 70.

Today, over 100 years after his death, Father Kneipp’s water cure is still respected and used by the medical profession in Germany. In fact, the German medicare program will even pay for your stay at a Kneipp Spa if it is prescribed by a doctor. The government’s philosophy is that three or four weeks of treatment acts as prevention and reduces health costs in the long run.

The International Kneipp Association, a non-profit organization with its head office in Munich, has developed a network of treatment sanitariums throughout Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, France and Southwest Africa. Most of these clinics are privately owned by medical doctors who have taken special training in the Kneipp cure.

When Father Kneipp first started, he used a water can (this is now the symbol of the Kneipp Association). Later, after he had more thoroughly developed his treatments, he replaced the can with a hose, a little bigger in diameter than a regular garden hose.

Your patients can try the water treatments at home. When using the hose, the water pressure should be such that when the hose end is held up the distance between the nozzle and the top of the arch of the water is about the width of a hand. Such a pressure will allow a steady, even flow of water around a leg, arm or hip. That the water coats the body evenly, without splashing over the skin, is an important aspect of Kneipp therapy.

One of his treatments for a cold foot bath was suggested by the iridologist but I never tried it.

Iridology Appointment: 10:00 AM

She invites me in and shows me to her basement office. I take a seat and she hands me my eyology report and comments that it took her five hours to produce. She pulls up my iris pictures and reviews the report. It starts with my iris type.

Genotype (Iris Constitution): Biliary

Genetic predisposition to gastrointestinal weakness with poor liver, gall bladder and pancreatic function. Symptoms include biliousness, digestive disorders like flatulence, constipation erratic blood sugar levels, migraines, lethargy and skin problems. There may be a heightened sensitivity to chemicals and superheated fats and oils.

General Recommendations:

-Avoid high fat foods like cheese and meat, fried foods and high sugar foods.

-Ensure daily bowel movement

-Take hot and cold foot baths to encourage blood and lymph circulation.

-Avoid alcohol which puts stress on the liver and kidneys.

Everything so far is very generic and could apply to anyone.

“There are beginnings of healing lines in this profile and whatever he has done to come back to balance through natural means have been effective.”

“This profle is marked by a state of general anxiety.”

“The Digestive, Nervous, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Endocrine and Urinary need to be looked at in more depth and balanced.”

Then she goes into each system in more detail and pulls up each picture to explain her findings in the iris and sclera.

Muscular/Skeletal: There are indications of connective tissue breakdown and possible effects of long term use of medications in this system. Some areas of the iris show high tissue acidity or inflammation.

She points to the under part of the eye and says this is a sign of yeast overgrowth: Candida. I explain that the naturopath has already tried this and I didn’t feel any difference after three weeks of the Candida Diet and she felt that three weeks wasn’t long enough.

She takes a look at my suppliments and writes down the new dosage and splits them into three groups. Group one are the ones I need right now, Group two are needed but not as important and Group three she said I didn’t need.

Group two was my Enzymes and within Group three was Magnesium.

She also suggested some weird herbal remedies that I’ve never heard of. She only has one that she can sell to me and it’s called Chelex Tincture. The rest I’ll need to order from the health food store.

Chelex Tincture

Chelex tincture contains herbs researched for their effects on counteracting heavy metals and disarming free radicals and the essential oil of helichrysum, which has been studied for its natural chelating action. Chelex contains herbal ingredients synergistically formulated to help rid the body of heavy metals and other immune-damaging free radicals. Heavy metals absorbed from the air, water, food, skin care products, etc., lodge and store in the fatty layers of the body and give off toxic gases in the system, which may create allergic symptoms. Ridding our bodies of heavy metals is extremely important in order to have healthy immune function, especially if we have mercury fillings. This formula contains the essential oil of helichrysum, which may help the body in the elimination of heavy metals because of its natural chelating action.

So with her new suppliment dosages, I only take what she deemed necessary and I only take the supplements in group one and in her new dosage so I don’t take any enzymes with my dinner. We talk about jucing vegetables and tells me that I should purchase a juicer as they are fairly cheap at Wal-Mart for under $40.00.

She touches a bit on my emotional side and I explain about my deep connection with the death of John Lennon. I was only 10 years old at the time but it still has an effect on me and she thought it was weird because he isn’t somebody that I am close to. He wasn’t direct family. I also went further to explain a high school breakup that was very emotional for me.

She talks about my internal vibration and says that in meditation, the body has a natural vibration that has a positive impact.

She shows me the area of the heart and it has healing lines. She said that whatever changes that I have made recently have prevented a heart attack! I found this really amazing because I never mentioned anything about my high blood pressure or the chest pains. I do know that magnesium and omega 3 is known to prevent heart attacks and I’ve added both recently. But she just told me that I didn’t need the magnesium supplement that I was taking?

She went on to explain about taking cold foot baths and that exactly what Dr. Jenson was taking about in his book. Another suggestion? I should eat seven almonds per day. She gave me a bunch of good food combinations and explained in more detail:

The theory of dietetics is based upon the hypothesis that inadequate absorption of food causes degeneration of tissue, and that for perfect metabolism do not combine foods high in starches with food high in proteins or fats in the same meal. It is, of course, impossible not to combine proteins and carbohydrates in the same meal. Practically all foods have some protein, some carbohydrate or some fat. However, a meal can be predominantly protein or predominantly carbohydrate.

The contention of these doctors is that a combination of high protein and high starches inhibits the absorption of all the nutritive factors of foods and results in an unnecessary burden upon the entire digestive apparatus.

She said that it would take six months before a person sees any change in the iris but we would have a follow up session in a couple of weeks. I ask her about taking wheatgrass and she says I should take it everyday.

I leave her house a little disappointed and with a little bit more knowledge. I don’t know what to think. It’s the most detailed report I’ve ever seen but how accurate is it? My other Doctors have told me that everything is normal but there is certainly a difference of opinion here!

Everything she seemed to suggest is on the expensive side. I’ll have to break everything down and research everything with Dr. Google before I try anything else.

I finally get around to completing the questionaire from the Iridology appointment. It’s called the Nutri-Body Questionaire. It’s ten pages long and grouped into 55 differnent sections. For each symptom listed, I rate from one to three (1 for mild, 3 for severe). My two highest scores are from section 39 with a score of 54 and section 47  with a score of 58. I’m willing to bet that section 39 is for vitamin B2 and 47 is for magnesium.

Nutri-Body Analysis

Your body is unique. it doesn’t conform to norms or averages. What works for others may not work for you. Blindly following some standardized approach to health may do your body more harm than good.  You need to find out as much as you can about your body’s unique biochemistry – its nutritional strengths and weaknesses.  No better way to do this than by completing a Nutri-Body Questionnaire. It will give you valuable information from which to create an effective supplement program tailored to your body’s particular needs.

Wow, this is exactly what I need. Hopefully this combined with the Iridology will get some results. This is the kind of thing that the naturopath should’ve done and paid a bit more attention to.

The day has finally come and I’ve been counting down the minutes all morning. I arrive at her house five minutes early and introduce myself when she opens the door. She tells me to go around the back of her house and enter her office. It’s a very humble room painted all white with a very weak looking examination table in the middle of the room. One side has two shelves filled with pictures of indian gurus along with burning scented candles and other middle eastern artifacts. There is a bookcase filled with books with everything from yoga, nutrition, chinese herbs to therapeutic aromatherapy. There is also a display case filled with lots of tiny little jars. On the other side of the room she has a digital camera on a miniture tripod and her computer. On the wall behind the camera is an iris chart for Iridology.

We begin the session by detailing the history of my symptoms with the successes and failures. I’ve done this so many times now I don’t bother taking my notes anymore. Every once in a while she will ask me a question and I explain in more detail. This takes about an hour and she is writing notes as we go along. At the end she comments on the tremedous amount of research I’ve done and says that people begin their second careers by a personal experience. I think I’d really enjoy being a research symptom investigator but unfortunately, doctor’s don’t seem to do any research.

She asks me about any injuries as a child and apart from appendicitis and a case of the mumps, there is nothing. Then I remember the story explained to me by my mother that as a child I fell down on brick edging around her garden and how I needed stitches between my eyes and I show her the tiny scar I have just above my nose. She says this is a very important area of the body and this injury may have played a part in my health history. She does a very brief eye exam with a plastic magnifying glass with a small light at the bottom. As she is looking at my eyes, she makes very small notations on my iridology chart. On the bottom of the page, there is a second chart for sclerology and she makes some notations on that chart too. WOW! I didn’t realize that she did sclerology as well as iridology.

After we review the entire history, she asks me to lie down on the examination table. She starts by checking the strength of my muscles and she asks me to put my arms and legs in a wide variety of positions and asks me to push in certain directions against her hand one position at a time. She then goes across the room and grabs five maybe six smallish briefcases, each one full of tiny little bottles. She spends the next two hours placing them one at a time on my stomach. She has her eyes closed and it appears like she is counting. Sometimes she places one bottle, sometimes multiple and from time to time, she will lift up my left arm and she places her hand around my wrist. Kind of the same way my acupuncture doctor did when she was listening to my lungs or liver via my pulse. She also checks my cranio sacral rhythm and says it feels weak. That’s the same thing the Osteopath said.

After she is done, she shows me a list she’s made of all of the essential oils and a number beside each one. She singles out two groups of these tiny bottles. One group of four, and another group of two. She explains about each of the oils and the effect it will have and she calls one group “Immpower blend” and the other called “Trauma blend”. She is going to make a blend using the four oils and pour them into little bottles to take with me. She grabs a book from her shelf regarding accupoints. She looks up a few things and explains the instructions.

She wants me to place a certain number of drops of oil on four different accupoints around my body and use them in the occasional foot bath.

ImmPower Blend:

Accupoint: LI20 – 2 drops – 2 times every other day.
Accupoint: LI 11 – 2 drops – 3 times everyday.
Footbath: 3-7 drops – every 4 days

Trauma Blend:

Accupoint: GB20 – 3 drops – every 3 days
Accupoint: RN12 – 2 drops – 2 times – every other day
Footbath: 3 drops – every 3 days

I can certainly say that no doctor has recommended that I try this! After she is done explaining about the oils, I notice that the time is past the three hour mark and she tells me to have a seat in front of the camera. She takes about fifteen pictures of my iris and sclera. It was a little bit difficult because of the light shining in my eyes and me not being able to open them wide enough but she downloads them to her computer and they look fantastic. Almost like those eyeball candies you see at halloween. It’s really creepy looking but hopefully she can make sense of it all.

She hands me my blended oils and I thank her very much for taking the time. I ask her if she would mind sending me her photos of the iris and she smiles. She said she doesn’t want me doing my own analysis so we agree that it’s best if she keeps them. She explains that in two weeks, she will have the full written report on what transpired today and she’ll review my supplements and make her recommedations if necessary. One thing is for sure, I do feel better today and I think it’s because I’ve added magnesium to my daily vitamins. She hands me a ten page Nutri-Body questionaire and it’s divided into 55 sections. She wants me to complete it and return it before the follow up appointment.

Today was certainly not what I expected. I thought it would be more like she would look at my eyes and tell me what was going on and recommend vitamins and minerals. After today, I’ve realized that iridology is quite complicated and it’s not something that is instant because a large part of it is the iridologist’s interpretation of what they can see.

I haven’t had much luck so far with any doctors so let’s see if this is any different. And it’s different all right…

Two symptoms that I have had for years are related to a Magnesium deficiency: Sensitivity to bright lights and weak knees.

Reasons Your Brain Needs Magnesium

#1 Your brain needs magnesium to build the protective myelin sheaths that insulate the nerve fibers which network your nervous system.

#2 Magnesium activates a key enzyme in cell membranes that controls the balance of sodium and potassium. This is absolutely essential to the electrical activity of nerve cells, as well as to the very existence of a cell. If its sodium-potassium ratio got too far out of balance, the cell would burst.

#3 Magnesium activates glutamine synthetase, an enzyme responsible for converting waste ammonia – an extremely toxic byproduct of normal protein metabolism – into urea for proper disposal. The ability to focus and pay attention can be compromised by even small increases in brain ammonia.

#4 Magnesium activates almost all the key enzymes needed for your neurons to produce energy from glucose, in the form of ATP molecules. Magnesium is also necessary for the stable storage of ATP, so it won’t spontaneously break down and waste its energy as heat.

#5 Of the 300+ different enzymes in the human body that require magnesium to function, a great many are crucial to cerebral metabolism and cognitive function. In the cerebrospinal fluid that bathes the brain and spinal cord, magnesium is present in higher concentrations than in the blood plasma.

#6 Magnesium is needed to activate the enzyme (D6D) that converts dietary fatty acids into DHA, the most abundant fatty acid in brain cell membranes. Deficiencies in DHA have been associated with numerous neurological disorders – from attention-deficits to Alzheimer’s disease

Here’s another web site:

Magnesium is the central atom in the chlorophyll molecule and in physiology it activates the ATP energy system. More than 300 enzymes require the presence of this mineral. Seventy percent of the body’s magnesium is found in the bones, and the rest is found mainly in the soft tissues and blood. There is more magnesium than calcium in muscle tissue and the brain has twice as much magnesium as any other tissue.

Every person, every doctor that I’ve mentioned my health history to has commented on the fact that I have done a tremendous amount of research to try and figure out my symptoms and the more deeper I get, the more I realize how I’ve only scratched the surface and looking back, I wish I’d done a better job.

I think if I was a doctor, I’d hire a research assistant to google symptoms for me. Actually, it’s more like an investigative researcher.

My iridology exam is tomorrow and I can’t wait. Hopefully, it’s the beginning of the end.

Iridology is facinating. I’m really enjoying the book by Doctor Jensen. Here are some paragraphs from his book Beyond Basic Health:

PAGE 11

The Balanced Diet:

  1. Pure natural foods
  2. 6 vegetables, 2 fruits, 1 starch & 1 protein
  3. Foods should be 80% alkaline and 20% acid
  4. Variety of foods
  5. 60% raw foods
  6. Avoid overeating
  7. Avoid deficiencies in food regimen

—————————————————————————————————————

PAGE 37

When we find one degenerative stage in an organ, there are usually other organs that have developed degenerative conditions as well. People seldom die from one disease. There is no condition that cannot be found in the iris that doesn’t also have inherent weaknesses, toxic settlements, and mineral deficiencies. Every underactive organ tends to drag down the rest of the body.

—————————————————————————————————————

PAGE 53

Today, very few doctors practice preventive health care, but I would not advise going to any other kind. The doctor who is interested in keeping you well is of greater value than the doctor who says he can’t do anything until you are sick.

What kind of profession is it that thrives and grows wealthy on sickness and disease, but shows so little interest in maintaining health?

—————————————————————————————————————

PAGE 70

Unfortunatley, very few mothers know how to feed children properly. They don’t know that the formulas they use are synthetic foods, not real food and may cause diabetic tendencies in later years.

—————————————————————————————————————

PAGE 82

Every disease is a sign of a chemical shortage in the body. All of these chemical elements are in our foods but we don’t know what a proper diet is.

—————————————————————————————————————

PAGE 84

If our patients do not improve, we are not using the right foods to treat them. Diseases are the end result of chemically deficient organs in the body that are not functioning properly. For example: We may have different diseases produced when the liver, bronchial tubes and stomach are not working normally together. We have another type of disease entirely when the kidneys, lungs and small intestines are not working together properly.

On the way home I stop by the local health food store and inquire about Iridology. A guy shows me to the bulletin board and hands me a pamphlet and a business card of a local women. I call the number as soon as I get home and I leave a message for her to call me.

Later in the afternoon she returns my call and I tell her that I’m interested in a Iridology exam. She explains the process. The cost is $150 for two sessions and the first session is three hours long. She will take pictures of my iris and sclera and suggest a health plan.

The second appoinment is scheduled with two weeks and she will provide a detailed report or as she put it “theisis” on my health conditions and she will us Iridology again to check if there is any improvement.

This sounds great. If I have serious vitamin deficiencies, whose to say I don’t have other things going on as well? I could be seriously lacking in minerals as well.

Iridology is used to identify nutritional deficiencies so this is definately the right direction.

Dear Dr. Google…

I’ve been taking high doses of niacin for over a month and although there is some improvement, I still have the mysterious internal tremor and low stomach acid. I forgot to take my acidophilus this morning and I had the head pinching. It disappeared when I took the acidophilus so something is obviously still wrong. Maybe it’s not a niacin deficiency at all? I have nervous system symptoms that are effected by diet. It has to be a nutritional deficiency, I just don’t know what kind.

With the Iridology charts and the deep lines at the top of my iris suggesting something effecting the cerebrum part of my brain, I start looking up symptoms with the cerebrum. With iridology some practitioners feel they can diagnose severe disease well before symptoms present themselves. So let’s see what I find out. I start reading about a whole bunch of scary neurological disorders and nothing matches my symptoms. It has to be a nutritional deficiency.

I start googling vitamin deficiencies and I look up every one. A, B, C, D, E, K etc. After reading them all and not finding anything as a possible match, I decide search for vitamins deficiencies that can effect the brain or more importantly, the cerebrum. This time I come across a more detailed decription of a Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) deficiency.

Vitamin B1 Deficiency

Vitamin B1 (thiamin) deficiency may result from a deficiency in the diet. People whose diet consists mainly of polished (refined) white rice are at risk of vitamin B1 deficiency, because polishing removes almost all of the vitamins. Alcoholics, who often substitute alcohol for food, are at high risk of developing this deficiency.

Symptoms

Early symptoms are vague. They include fatigue, irritability, memory impairment, loss of appetite, sleep disturbances, abdominal discomfort, and weight loss. Eventually, a severe vitamin B1 deficiency (beriberi) may develop, characterized by nerve, heart, and brain abnormalities.

Brain abnormalities due to vitamin B1 deficiency occur primarily in alcoholics. Brain abnormalities may develop when a chronic vitamin B1 deficiency is suddenly worsened by a rapid, substantial decrease in the vitamin B1 level (which can be caused by an alcoholic binge) or by a sudden increase in vitamin B1 requirements (which may occur when an undernourished alcoholic is fed intravenously).

Diagnosis and Treatment

The diagnosis is based on symptoms. Tests to confirm the diagnosis are not readily available. All forms of the deficiency are treated with vitamin B1 supplements.

A balanced diet containing all essential nutrients will prevent a thiamine deficiency and the development of beriberi. People who consume large quantities of junk food like soda, pretzels, chips, candy, and high carbohydrate foods made with unenriched flours may be deficient in thiamine and other vital nutrients. They may need to take vitamin supplements and should improve their diets. Usually there are other deficiencies in the B vitamins that will also need treatment.

Excess thiamine is excreted by the body in the urine, and negative reactions to too much thiamine are rare. Thiamine is unstable in alkali solutions, so it should not be taken with antacids or barbiturates.

Thiamine should be taken daily, with the dose depending on the severity of the disease. Additional supplements of B vitamins, a multivitamin and mineral complex, and Vitamin C are also recommended. Other alternative therapies may help relieve the person’s symptoms after the thiamine deficiency is corrected.

So maybe I had multiple B vitamin deficiencies? Another web site talks about how a B1 deficiency can lead to a disease called Beriberi :

Beriberi – this is caused by thiamin deficiency and affects the cardiovascular, muscular, gastrointestinal and nervous systems. As well as the above symptoms, a person with ‘dry’ beriberi may have: nerve degeneration, nervous tingling throughout the body, poor arm and leg coordination, and deep pain in the calf muscles. Symptoms of ‘wet’ beriberi include: an enlarged heart, heart failure and severe oedema (swelling).

Thiamine Deficiency And Dependency

The coenzyme thiamine pyrophosphate, the active form of thiamine (vitamin B1), participates in carbohydrate metabolism through decarboxylation of -keto acids. Thiamine also acts as coenzyme to the apoenzyme transketolase in the pentose monophosphate pathway for glucose. Deficiency causes beriberi with peripheral neurologic, cerebral, cardiovascular, and GI manifestations.

Another site lists another set of symptoms:

Deficiency Symptoms: Depression, constipation, impaired growth in children, shortness of breath, numbness of hands and feet, weakness, fatigue, nervousness, sensitivity to noise, loss of appetite.

Inhibits Absorption: Tobacco, stress, fever, coffee, alcohol, surgery, raw clams

Enhances Absorption: B-complex, sulfur, manganese, niacin, B-2, folic acid, C, E

And then another says one of the Neurologic signs is a….TREMOR.

Pathophysiology
Nutritional disease results from Thiamine deficiency

Symptoms : Weakness, irritability, Nausea, Vomiting, Burning feet, Pruritus

Signs

Neurologic: Tremor, Diminished reflexes in lower limbs, Muscle atrophy

Cardiac: Congestive Heart Failure, Pedal Edema , Pleural Effusions

And yet another:

The following systems are most affected by beriberi:

Gastrointestinal system

When the cells of the smooth muscles in the digestive system and glands do not get enough energy from glucose, they are unable to produce more glucose from the normal digestion of food. There is a loss of appetite, indigestion, severe constipation, and a lack of hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

Nervous System

Glucose is essential for the central nervous system to function normally. Early deficiency symptoms are fatigue, irritability, and poor memory. If the deficiency continues, there is damage to the peripheral nerves that causes loss of sensation and muscle weakness, which is called peripheral neuropathy. The legs are most affected. The toes feel numb and the feet have a burning sensation; the leg muscles become sore and the calf muscles cramp. The individual walks unsteadily and has difficulty getting up from a squatting position. Eventually, the muscles shrink (atrophy) and there is a loss of reflexes in the knees and feet; the feet may hang limp (footdrop).

Cardiovascular system

There is a rapid heartbeat and sweating. Eventually the heart muscle weakens. Because the smooth muscle in the blood vessels is affected, the arteries and veins relax, causing swelling, known as edema, in the legs.

Musculoskeletal system

There is widespread muscle pain caused by the lack of TPP in the muscle tissue.

A thiamin deficiency also produces Warnicke-Korsakoff syndrome, sometimes called cerebral beriberi, a disorder of the central nervous system.

Muscles shrink (atrophy) and there is a loss of reflexes in the knees and feet? Could this explain my Plantar Fasciitis? A B1 deficiency is linked to the Gastrointestinal system and the Nervous System. The two things I have symptoms for. The two things I’ve been telling the doctors about and now I have a link to the cerebrum.

What is Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome?

Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome (WKS) is a neurological disorder. Wernicke’s Encephalopathy and Korsakoff’s Psychosis are the acute and chronic phases, respectively, of the same disease. Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome is a combination of  Korsakoff’s syndrome which constitutes confusion, aphonia and confabulation and Wernicke’s encephalopathy which is nystagmus, opthalmoplegia, coma and, if untreated, death. It is also known as cerebral beriberi, which is beriberi (thiamine deficiency disease) in the brain. This results from severe acute deficiency of thiamine superimposed on a chronic deficiency. Usually found in malnourished chronic alcoholics.

Korsakoff’s syndrome, with symptoms of severe anterograde and retrograde amnesia, is caused by damage to mammillary bodies and other brain regions due to deficiency of thiamine. This is most often caused by chronic alcoholism, though other conditions including severe malnutrition, have been known to cause it. An association of Gayet-Wernicke and Korsakoff’ syndromes frequently observed in alcoholic, nutritionally deficient patients with the Gayet-Wernicke syndrome. Patients develop symptoms of the Korsakoff syndrome, mainly amnesia with a tendency to confabulate with or without polyneuropathy.

I don’t think I’ve gotten to the point of the Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome so it appears what I could have is a B1 deficiency that may led to it. Scary stuff…and it’s starting to make a bit more sense.

I’ve had this very weird feeling in my head almost from the time when the other symptoms started happening around July 2005. If I tilted my head back and kept it there for 5-10 seconds, when I try to bring it back, my head has a heavy sluggishness feeling. Almost like the fluid trying to balance itself. It dosen’t happen all of the time and I didn’t quite know how to explain it so I never mentioned it. The Cerebellum is the part of the brain below the back of the cerebrum and it regulates balance, posture, movement, and muscle coordination.

Down to Shoppers Drug Mart to pick up 100 mg of B1 suppliment.

In my research with Iridology, I come across the web site for the largest naturopathic and allergy clinic in North America and it happens to be in Toronto. I’ve never heard of it. One of the doctors wrote an article on Allergies:

Allergies
By Dr. Fateh Srajeldin N.D.

Allergies are hyper-reactive and adverse (systemic or total) bodily responses to a stimulus or multiple stimuli (antigens). These antigens are harmless to most people, but others show hyper-reaction when allergens gain access into the domain of their body. This hyper-reaction is a response from the body and a message to inform us of changes in the general status of the body. It is also one of many attempts of the body to free itself from the invading stimuli. The reaction is a protective measure from the body to reduce or nullify the effects of such stimuli. Many patients claim that they did not have allergies. They use the excuse that they never had allergies before. While I know that the statement is true, I also know that a diabetic never had diabetes before and a hypertensive patient did not have hypertension before. Therefore, the excuse of «I did not have allergies before» does not hold water any more and is insufficient to stamp a patient with allergy free individual.

Blood tests, skin tests and food elimination or rotation are not diagnostic tools for allergies. The only factors that determine patient’s allergies are the patient’s history of symptoms, its duration and periodicity. Allergy testing only confirms or denies your suspicion of allergies. Symptoms and history come first, tests come second.
Inherited or acquired.

During history taking a strong attempt is directed to find out whether the patient’s allergies are inherited at birth from parents or grandparents, or are allergies acquired after birth from patient’s life style, eating habits, work environment and medications. Acquired allergies arise from altered body ecology due to usage of medications, improper diet, and unhealthy lifestyle. Allergies caused by factors other than inheritance must not be treated as allergies. This type of allergies is considered as «an allergy like symptoms» not true allergies. The lymphatic system in this case would be congested due to medications, yeast or toxins. Further, at the same token the liver is weakened and unable to meet the body’s detoxification demands. In this case the cause of the problem is addressed during the treatment not the allergies that the patient is presenting.

Inherited allergies are attached to the body genetically and would be controlled by an extensive history taking during the first visit then a blood sample is drawn to evaluate the level of allergens in the sample. Blood sample would identify 200 different foods plus 50 inhalant allergens.

Allergies are classified according to the allergic response.

Type I
• is IgE mediated allergic reaction
• includes drugs, urticaria, anaphylaxis, angioedema and stings.

Type II
• is complement-dependent and involves 1gM or IgG antibodies, where the antibody is fixed on the circulating blood cell and than destroyed (cytolytic and cytotoxic)
• includes the following disorders due to drug interactions: systemic lupus erythematosus, lupoid hepatitis, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenic purpura and agranulocytosis.

Type III
• is an immune complex disease
• involves IgG where a drug reaction is demonstrated by serum sickness
• includes arthralgia, arthritis, urticaria skin eruption, lymphadenopathy and fever
• the reaction may last for up to 2 weeks or until the offending drug is eliminated by the liver and the kidney.

Type IV
• is a cell mediated delayed hypersensitivity with I cells type lymphocytes, which occurs in 24-48 hours after exposure.
• an example of such a reaction is contact dermatitis due to topically applied substances such as drug or poison.

What are allergens?
There are approximately 1.4 million different pollen and ragweeds in one teaspoon. Only four are needed to trigger an allergic reaction in a susceptible patient. Some allergens are: dusts, ragweeds, pollens, drugs, molds, grasses, animal hair, animal dandruff.

Enzymes
Reduced digestive enzymes or co-enzymes due to digestive problems and/or poor structure or due to heredity induce IgA and Gamma globulin.

Vaccines
It was found that some vaccines destroy I-regulatory cells that are produced by the thymus. These cells help reduce allergic effects. Vaccines, chemical exposure and some drugs reduce the effects of the I-regulatory cells or destroy them. Most vaccines are based on the introduction of bacteria, virus or their antigen into the blood stream. Such bacteria, virus or antigen are made of proteins that are foreign to the body. Most allergic reactions after a vaccination are related to the body’s reaction to that protein. Some individuals develop allergies shortly after vaccination.

Food and food additives
Some foods contain elements that the body is not familiar with it to digest it. Gluten, milk protein, milk sugar (lactase) are proteins that the body may not be able to digest them and consequently react to them upon ingestion. Not being able to digest any protein means that its presence would lead to mal-absorption of any food that contains the protein in question. At the first attempt to ingest such protein the intestine react to its presence by flattening its villi. Such intestinal reaction would lead to abdominal pains, gas, diarrhea or indigestion as follows:

I. expedite the transit time of unwanted food to prevent its absorption
II. shorten its exposure time in the intestine to lessen its adverse effects
III. the downfall of this procedure is that the body would absorb other material present in the intestine that it would have otherwise not absorbed.

Organic weakness due to lifestyle
Weakness of the lymphatic system, thinning of the intestinal walls, the liver and the thymus.

Chronic infections
Ear infections, tonsillitis, digestive track abnormalities, mononucleosis, chronic fatigue symptom, PMS (females only) and hepatitis.

Candida albicans
Antibiotics, birth control pills, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy set the stage for fungal infections by altering the bowel’s flora. The once controlled fungus, invades the intestinal mucosa to the flora making fenestrations in the flora exposing the species to the blood system. Once in the blood stream, it invades the uterine and vaginal cells, among other organs and tissues. Allergies develop over time with these patients due to the presence and over growth of fungus.

Stress
Destroys cellular enzymes that lead to cellular distress.
Improper weaning during infancy
In the span between birth and first birthday many parents make many irresponsible dietary mistakes with their infants that set the stage to allergies to settle in their children’s body. An improper weaning of your infant may lead to the introduction of certain by-products and toxins into the liver. Being unable to break these toxins down, their presence congests and weakens the liver. As a reaction to allergens in the body produces histamine, the liver’s role is to remove it from the body. Due to its weakness and congestion, however, the liver struggles in removing histamine and consequently, histamine builds up in the body leading to more allergic reactions. The best place to start allergy treatment is at the liver.

Food
Allergies start as a reaction to one type of food, food additives or food colourings. The body would attempt to capture whatever is causing the allergy and remove it. Repeated introduction of the same allergens would weaken the body organs. Further weakness of the organs would surface allergic symptoms.

Symptoms of allergy
General symptoms include pain, epistaxis, weight loss, night sweats (excluding hypoglycemia), temperature, tonsillitis, fatigue and frequent cold; sneezing, cough, itchy eyes, ears, nose and root of the mouth.

Diagnosis
Past medical history: physical and psychological Family history: parents, grand parents on sides, brothers, sisters, etc.
History of signs and symptoms: in-uterine history, infancy, childhood, teens and adulthood.

Foods to eliminate
Sugar including all its names, shapes, forms and disguise; milk, wheat, gluten, eggs, coffee, tea, citrus fruits, MSG.

Habits
Chew food well, do not eat fruits with your meals and do not drink water during meals.

Order of tests
I. Food rotation
II. IgG, IgE, 260 food allergens in serum test
III. The radioallergosorbent test (RAST)
IV. Cytotyxic allergy test
V. The cardiovascular test (complimentary)

Remedies
Must be hypoallergenic: Vitamin A, Vitamin E, glutathione, quercetin, echinacea and zinc.

Homeopathic
Lyphosot drops, Chelidonium drops, Co-Enzyme drops.

I do some more research on Iridology when I get home and I find a web site called the International Iridology Practitioners Association. It lists IIPA Certified Iridologists for the US and Canada. I scroll down to Canada and find Diane E. Elms, CCI, CIP, Ancaster, Ontario, Canada “2006 Iridologist of the Year”. This sounds good and she has a web site.

On her web site it mentions that she is a photographer and that for $100 she does reading over the internet if you provide her good detailed pictures of your iris.

I send her an email and include my pictures…
