Diary of Unknown Symptoms

Mystery of the Internal Vibration

Entry for March 28, 2007

No vibration again this morning. Three days in a row. I won’t get too excited as I’ve had this happen before but I’ll just keep doing what seems to be working.

My iridology appointment is tonight and I’m really looking forward to it. What has me interested even more is the Ion Foot Bath. I’ve seen it advertised in health food stores and to be quite honest, I’ve been skeptical. Tonight, I’ll try it for myself. So I did some googling to find out some more information. It’s supposed to have an effect on candida and blood circulation.

Detox Foot Bath – How does it work?

It is a detox water foot bath which uses brass and stainless steel electrodes. It is used as a foot bath to cleanse, balance and enhance the bio-energy [the vital energy force present in the breath of bodily fluids]. This energy is the electro-magnetic force that is stored within the body and utilized by our cells. Chinese medicine refers to this energy as the “chi”. The complex energy fields permeate and realign the body’s energy field while improving oxygen levels. While the foot bath is widely used to increase energy [both physical and mental energy], vitality, and stamina, at the same time, it purges [detoxifies] the body of toxins, chemicals, radiation, pollution, synthetics, and other foreign material trapped in the skin layers that have clogged up the body’s systems of elimination. Its internal cleansing includes parasite cleansing and liver detoxification, which results in less body fluid retention, reduced inflammation, improved memory, greater bladder control, a more balanced pH, a stronger immune system and significant pain relief, including headaches, gout and arthritis pain.

As believed in Reflexology, each foot is actually a channel, a conduit, through which your body attempts to cleanse itself of toxic wastes and heavy metals that are building up in many parts of your body. During the foot bath, you will actually see the cleansing process take place as the water interacts with a compound electric current and magnetic field structure. This body cleansing process results in the correct frequency required for cells to return to a healthy state, and to release waste that has been bonded to them over the years. This detoxification therapeutic procedure also enhances the effects of other therapies. This unit is among the best detox products available.

What happens during a detox foot bath?

You immerse your feet in warm water. The machine is set to the correct settings and ionization levels. Then you sit back and relax for 20-35 minutes while the machine completes its cycle. You’ll see the excreted toxins, including parasites, in the water. The water will change color and consistency from orange, brown through to black — due to the release of toxic substances through the 2000 pores on the sole of each foot. There may be lymphatic fat or mucous floating on the water. Each therapeutic session lasts about 20-35 minutes, and should be taken every 2-3 days until the water is finally clear. The clear water will indicate that the body is clear of toxins at that time. Detoxification is usually complete within 5 -7 procedures over the course of 2-3 weeks. Note: Depending on your geographical region, the water may not change colors, but the same detoxification effects still occur.

What is the significance of color? Believe it or not, it is important to eat a variety of colorful foods in order to assure balanced chemistry. Every color is a chemical and has a chemical value. Chemical components of foods contribute to their acid-alkaline balance. As a general rule, Green Foods nourish the immune system, especially the liver and gall bladder. Red Foods nourish the endocrine system, including the pituitary gland, as well as the heart and small intestines. Orange Foods nourish the joints. Yellow Foods nourish the digestive system, including the spleen, stomach, and pancreas. White Foods nourish the respiratory system, namely the lungs, but also the large intestines, lymphatic system and skin. Black Foods nourish the circulatory system, kidneys and bladder. By the same token, when the water is changing colors, each color represents the part of the body that is being detoxified. One of the most visual effects is the discoloration of the water, but while the color changes in the water can be dramatic, it is not the most important factor and one must be careful about making any judgment’s based only on the water color.

What healing benefits can be gained?

The human body is electric because our cells are electric. Disorders and diseases of the body have vibrational frequencies that are incompatible with healthy cells; thus, they disrupt the cells’ natural oscillation and polarity. This disruption creates imbalance and chaos within each affected cell. When cells are in an imbalanced state, they are unable to facilitate the body’s functions needed for healing, including ridding itself of heavy metals, parasites and other toxins. But when cells are fully charged, they have more oxygen and are able to experience electrical balance, which results in a feeling of a healthy attitude, vitality, well-being, and enables the body to heal itself. This balance increases our sense of awareness and our sense of the mind/body/spirit connection. Darkfield studies have shown the machine significantly improves oxygen levels.

Studies show that an overall balancing effect occurs, along with a significant increase in the number of negative ions. Ions are atoms or molecules that have lost or gained electrons [Free radicals are unpaired electrons]. If the atoms or molecules lose electrons, they become positively charged ions. If they gain electrons, they become negatively charges ions. The ionic technique of cleansing thru feet provides a full body purge of all vital organs, resulting in reduced menopause symptoms, menstrual cramps, sexual health problems, skin problems, acne, sleep problems, restlessness, stress, toothaches, vaginal dryness, wrinkles, candida and yeast infections. The internal cleansing also results in faster disease healing and injury recovery.

Water has an almost perfect balance of positive and negative ions. Since the body is composed of about 70% water, its ability to interact with water is very high. When you immerse a body mass into water, the vibrational frequency of the water will affect the vibrational frequency of the body due to the interaction of the magnetic and electrical fields. Consequently, the Aqua Chi Detoxification Foot Spa unit is one of the best detox products. It is an exceptionally wonderful and natural healing tool. It is painless, with no drugs, and no harmful side effects.

Plantar Fasciitis: Basically a foot pain caused by muscle weakness and poor circulation.

Plantar Faciitis was my second symptom and the first doctor I mentioned it to told me I needed to excerise the muscles to make them stronger. I never took his advice because I believed there was something more but at the time, I didn’t know what it was but I had a hunch it was related to the internal vibration.

It wasn’t until later, when I was decided to try weekly acupuncture, that I was told I had very poor blood circulation. I’ve always had cold feet and cold hands and thought it was normal. It wasn’t until she was performing a technique called “cupping” that I realized how bad it was.  She was the only doctor who told me I had poor blood circulation and it made perfect sense. Acupuncture is great because they question everything that is not quite normal.

After the seventh session, I discovered one of my problems was related to a niacin deficiency and so I started taking niacin. Niacin naturally increases the blood flow so this made total sense to me. After a week of taking niacin, the plantar faciitis disappeared completely but the odd thing was the marks made from the cupping seemed to improve but there was still a sign of poor blood circulation. I had always assumed that the lack of improvement was because it would take a while to build up the niacin in my body. Now I know it was something else. When I did some googling, I came across this:

Plantar Fasciitis

Latest studies show that in many cases of plantar fasciitis there really is no inflamation, but rather an avascularity (Loss of blood circulation).

So I thought I had solved my problems by taking niacin but the internal vibration continued. I stopped taking niacin and the plantar fasciitis would come back so I’ve been taking it ever since.

It wasn’t until I reduced my intake of magnesium that I realized my arms felt dead like there was no circulation and it was even worse if I put them over my head. I couldn’t understand because I was still taking niacin.

Now I realize that a magnesium deficiency is responsible for both muscle weakness and poor circulation. I googled plantar fasciitis again today and came across this:

Arthritis: Some types of arthritis can cause inflammation in the tendons in the bottom of your foot, which may lead to plantar fasciitis.

Diabetes: Although doctors don’t know why, plantar fasciitis occurs more often in people with diabetes.

Arthritis and diabetes are both linked to a deficiency in magnesium.

Arthritis:  Because magnesium suppresses PTH (a mineral transport hormone) and stimulates calcitonin (a polypeptide of 32 amino acid residues), it helps remove calcium from soft tissues eliminating some forms of arthritis. Copper is a metal ion long suspected as playing a role in preventing arthritis. Copper is complementary to magnesium uptake and may therefore reduce calcitic arthritis by providing more magnesium absorption.

Diabetes: The role of magnesium in diabetes has been scientifically well established for over 35 years. Magnesium influences insulin production and function. Magnesium has been effectively used to treat brittle diabetics. (Diabetics who frequently oscillate between high and low blood sugar.) In Europe, magnesium has long been used to treat insulin resistant diabetes and decompensated diabetics developing acidosis and ketosis.

I can’t seem to find any reference to the fact that plantar fasciitis is a related symptom of a magnesium deficiency but it should be. Muscle weakness and poor circulation are well known symptoms of a magnesium deficiency!

I think that the success I’ve had using Niacin and noticing the changes to the Plantar Faciitis are interesting but I still think there is something more.

What is folate?

Folic acid, also called folate or folacin, is a B-complex vitamin most publicized for its importance in pregnancy and prevention of pregnancy defects.

Folic acid is one of the most chemically complicated vitamins, with a three-part structure that puts special demands on the body’s metabolism. The three primary components of folic acid are called PABA, glutamic acid, and pteridine. (Two of these components, glutamic acid and pteridine, help explain the technical chemical name for folate, namely pteroylmonoglutamate.)

As complex as this vitamin is in its structure, it is equally as complicated in its interaction with the human body. For example, most foods do not contain folic acid in the exact form described above, and enzymes inside the intestine have to chemically alter food forms of folate in order for this vitamin to be absorbed. Even when the body is operating at full efficiency, only about 50% of ingested food folate can be absorbed.

What is the function of folate?

Red blood cell formation and circulation support

One of folate’s key functions as a vitamin is to allow for complete development of red blood cells. These cells help carry oxygen around the body. When folic acid is deficient, the red bloods cannot form properly, and continue to grow without dividing. This condition is called macrocytic anemia, and one of its most common causes is folic acid deficiency.

In addition to its support of red blood cell formation, folate also helps maintain healthy circulation of the blood throughout the body by preventing build-up of a substance called homocysteine. A high serum homocysteine level (called hyperhomocysteinemia) is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and low intake of folate is a key risk factor for hyperhomocysteinemia. Increased intake of folic acid, particularly by men, has repeatedly been suggested as a simply way to lower risk of cardiovascular disease by preventing build-up of homocysteine in the blood. Preliminary research also suggests that high homocysteine levels can lead to the deterioration of dopamine-producing brain cells and may therefore contribute to the development of Parkinson’s disease. Therefore, folate deficiency may have an important relationship to neurological health.

Research is now confirming a link between blood levels of folate and not only cardiovascular disease, but dementias, including Alzheimer’s disease.

One of the most recent studies, which was published in the July 2004 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition evaluated 228 subjects. In those whose blood levels of folate were lowest, the risk for mild cognitive impairment was more than tripled, and risk of dementia increased almost four fold. Homocysteine, a potentially harmful product of cellular metabolism that is converted into other useful compounds by folate, along with vitamin B6 and B 12, was also linked to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Individuals whose homocysteine levels were elevated had a 4.3 (more than four fold) increased risk of dementia and a 3.7 (almost four fold) increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease.(June 30, 2004)

Research teams in the Netherlands and the U.S. have confirmed that low levels of folic acid in the diet significantly increases risk of osteporosis-related bone fractures due to the resulting increase in homocysteine levels. Homocysteine has already been linked to damage to the arteries and atherosclerosis, plus increased risk of dementia in the elderly. Now, in a study that appeared in the May 2004 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers at the Eramus Medical Center, Rotterdam, Holland, and another team in Boston have confirmed that individuals with the highest levels of homocysteine have a much higher risk of osteoporotic fracture.

In the Rotterdam study, which included 2,406 subjects aged 55 years or older, those with the highest homocysteine levels, whether men or women, almost doubled their risk of fracture. The Boston team found that risk of hip fracture nearly quadrupled in men and doubled in women in the top 25% of homocysteine levels. Both groups found that folic acid reduced the risk of osteoporotic fractures by reducing high levels of homocysteine.

What factors might contribute to a deficiency of folate?

In addition to poor dietary intake of folate itself, deficient intake of other B vitamins can contribute to folate deficiency. These vitamins include B1, B2, and B3 which are all involved in folate recycling. Poor protein intake can cause deficiency of folate binding protein which is needed for optimal absorption of folate from the intestine, and can also be related to an insufficient supply of glycine and serine, the amino acids that directly participate in metabolic recycling of folate. Excessive intake of alcohol, smoking, and heavy coffee drinking can also contribute to folate deficiency.

How do other nutrients interact with folate?

Vitamins B1, B2, and B3 must be present in adequate amounts to enable folic acid to undergo metabolic recycling in the body. Excessive amounts of folic acid, however, can hide a vitamin B12 deficiency, by masking blood-related symptoms.

How is folate-deficiency anemia diagnosed?

Folate-deficiency anemia may be suspected from general findings from a complete medical history and physical examination. In addition, several blood tests can be performed to confirm the diagnosis. If the anemia is thought to be caused by a problem in the digestive tract, a barium study of the digestive system may be performed. Folate deficiency does not usually produce neurological problems; B12 deficiency does. Folate and B12 deficiency can be present at the same time. If B12 deficiency is treated with folate by mistake, the symptoms of anemia may lessen, but the neurological problems can become worse.

Natural forms of folic acid:

orange juice
oranges
romaine lettuce
spinach
liver
rice
barley
sprouts
wheat germ
soy beans
green, leafy vegetables
beans
peanuts
broccoli
asparagus
peas
lentils
wheat germ
chick peas (garbanzo beans)

How do I know if I’m deficent in folate? Untill I started eating healthy recently, the only thing I had on a semi-regular basis was romaine lettuce. I’m sure wheatgrass is a good substitute for the green, leafy vegetables.

What are deficiency symptoms for folate?

Because of its link with the nervous system, folate deficiency can be associated with irritability, mental fatigue, forgetfulness, confusion, depression, and insomnia. The connections between folate, circulation, and red blood cell status make folate deficiency a possible cause of general or muscular fatigue. The role of folate in protecting the lining of body cavities means that folate deficiency can also result in intestinal tract symptoms (like diarrhea) or mouth-related symptoms like gingivitis or periodontal disease.

So folate helps maintain healthy circulation of the blood throughout the body by preventing build-up of a substance called homocysteine which can lead to a higher risk of coronary heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease.

Another one of my “weird” symptoms is when I hold my hands over my head for more than ten seconds. I start to feel a mild numbing sensation down the length of my arms and I’m sure it’s due to a lack of blood circulation.

I think I’ve proven that I do have circulation issues so maybe I’m deficient in folic acid too. Beriberi sounds very serious and if it’s what I have then I should get a blood test to confirm it. On the way home I’ll drop into the walk in clinic and see if I can convince the doctor for a blood test. At the very least, I will be able to rule out if it comes up negative.

Tenth acupuncture appointment and it’s time to review. I’m not entirely convinced that the actual acupuncture made a difference to my condition but I do think that the best thing that happened was the doctor’s ability to step back when things weren’t working. That was the turning point for me. It wasn’t what the doctor was doing, it was the ability to review the symptoms once again and reassess the direction of treatment. None of my other doctors did this.

I would’ve thought that with all of the testing done by my regular doctor, he had ample opportunity to step back and reassess and didn’t. His attitude was that he was finding nothing in his testing so there must be nothing wrong.

She does the regular needles in my back and starts the cupping. There is improvement but there are still signs of poor circulation. After 15 minutes she places the needles in and around my stomach, legs and hands.

She recommends that we take a two week break and watch to see if there is any changes with my symptoms. She also recommended that I see a Osteopath.

Four straight days now without using any inserts in my shoes and no pain. I’m convinced that the Niacin has increased my blood circulation to my feet. So out of curiosity, I ask Dr. Google and I come across this:

The term plantar fasciitis is derived from plantar which refers to the bottom of the foot and fascia which is a type of dense fibrous connective tissue. The “itis” is a suffix which means inflammation. Latest studies show that in many cases of plantar fasciitis there really is no inflamation, but rather an avascularity (loss of blood circulation).

The signs were there but no one but them all together. The internal vibration has gone for the most part. Sometimes I notice it and other times it’s very weak. I think I need more than 200 mg but I won’t increase it until I see the doctor on June 3rd.

Niacin should be started at low doses and increased slowly over several weeks. To avoid stomach upset, niacin should be taken with meals.

I’ve been eating six cans of tuna a week because of the natural niacin. As I’m reading the paper this morning I come across an article about the high levels of mercury in tuna . Oh great…

SAN FRANCISCO – A state judge ruled that California cannot require the nation’s three largest tuna companies to place mercury warning labels on their cans.

State Attorney General Bill Lockyer sued the tuna canners two years ago to enforce Proposition 65, a 1986 state law requiring consumer warnings about reproductive toxins such as mercury, which has been linked to developmental problems in children.

With some studies showing that tuna contains potentially unsafe levels of mercury, health advocates complain that tuna companies and government agencies haven’t done enough to warn consumers about the risks.

The judge also found that the mercury levels in the companies’ tuna were not high enough to require labels. In addition, he ruled that virtually all the mercury in canned tuna was naturally occurring, exempting them from the warning

“The decision, we believe, is wrong on the law, wrong on the science and bad for consumers,” Dresslar said. “When the consumers of California go into a grocery store, they have a right to be informed about the mercury that is present in canned tuna.”
said spokesman Tom Dresslar.

Acupuncture appointment number nine. I tell her about the naturopath and the low dose of Niacin and she says to keep eating the foods with natural Niacin. I tell her that I’ve been eating turkey and tuna all week and she’s quite happy to hear that. She takes my blood pressure and it’s 127/95. It’s the lowest reading of the systolic pressure so far.

Today she works on my allergies and starts with the regular needles in my back and the cupping. In the middle of the cupping she comments on how the brusing is noticeably better.

I flip over and she starts on the stomach. I ask her to touch my feet and she notices they aren’t cold and clammy like they usually are. With all of these small successes, the Niacin is working wonders.

As I am leaving, she gives me another chinese herb called “Bimingan Wan” for my allergies.

Extensive testing looking for all kinds of disease and it appears to be a simple vitamin deficiency.
