The higher niacin/niacinamide dosage is going fine but I can still feel a fine vibration. Doing some more research, I’ve taken a closer look at what can cause nervousness and I may have a new suspect. Symptoms of both anxiety and stressed adrenals? Pantothenic Acid.

And here’s what I found:

Pantothenic Acid – B5

Helps turn carbohydrates and fats into usable energy. Improve your ability to respond to stress by supporting your adrenal glands and assure adequate production of healthy fats in your cells.

Deficiency symptoms for Vitamin B5:

Fatigue, insomnia, depression, irritability, vomiting, stomach pains, burning feet, and upper respiratory infections. Vitamin B5 deficiency causes depression, personality changes, heart problems, increased risk of infections, fatigue, abdominal pains, sleep disturbances, numbness and altered sensation in the arms and legs, muscle weakness, cramps, increased sensitivity to insulin (the hormone that lowers blood glucose levels), decreased blood cholesterol levels and decreased potassium levels in the body.

Because vitamin B5 is needed to release energy from carbohydrates and fats, its deficiency is often related to low energy-related symptoms. These symptoms include fatigue, listlessness, and sensations of weakness. Fatigue is probably the earliest and most common symptom of pantothenic acid deficiency.

Teenagers are more likely to experience a deficiency, because their diets often include high amounts of “fast foods” sugars, and refined flours (all low in B vitamins).

Many foods contain vitamin B5, therefore a deficiency of this nutrient is rare. The Greek word “Panthos,” from which its name is derived means “everywhere.” Vitamin B5 is available from a very large range of food sources.

The benefits of vitamin B5 vitamin may also potentially be used: “orally for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, peripheral neuritis, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), prostatitis, protection against mental and physical stress and anxiety, reducing signs of aging, reducing susceptibility to colds and other infections, retarded growth, shingles, skin disorders, stimulating adrenal glands, mouth ulcers, chronic fatigue syndrome, vertigo, and wound healing.”

Pantothenic Acid

This vitamin is involved in all the vital functions of the body. It stimulates the adrenal glands and increases production of cortisone and other adrenal hormones. It is primarily used as an anti-stress factor and protects against most physical and mental stresses and toxins. Pantothenic acid increases vitality, wards off infections, and speeds recovery from ill health. It helps in maintaing the normal growth and development of the central nervous system. This vitamin prevents premature ageing. It also provides protection against any damage caused by excessive radiation.

Pantothenic acid, also known as vitamin B5, is essential to all forms of life. Pantothenic acid is found throughout living cells in the form of coenzyme A (CoA), a vital coenzyme in numerous chemical reactions.

Coenzyme A

Pantothenic acid is a component of coenzyme A (CoA), an essential coenzyme in a variety of reactions that sustain life. CoA is required for chemical reactions that generate energy from food (fat, carbohydrates, and proteins). The synthesis of essential fats, cholesterol, and steroid hormones requires CoA, as does the synthesis of the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, and the hormone, melatonin.

Intestinal bacteria

The bacteria that normally colonize the colon (large intestine) are capable of making their own pantothenic acid. It is not yet known whether humans can absorb the pantothenic acid synthesized by their own intestinal bacteria in meaningful amounts. However, a specialized process for the uptake of biotin and pantothenic acid was recently identified in cultured cells derived from the lining of the colon, suggesting that humans may be able to absorb pantothenic acid and biotin produced by the bacteria normally present in the colon.

Just before going to bed, I take 500 mg of Pantothenic acid.
