Diary of Unknown Symptoms

Mystery of the Internal Vibration

Entry for August 15, 2006

Based on the hair analysis from the naturopath, she told me that my magnesium level was within the normal range despite my suggestion and range of symptoms. The results came back 38 and a normal range is from 18-78. There is no way that my magnesium is normal. How can a naturopathic doctor have faith in a test that is obviously inaccurate?? She even told me at the time that the bottom section of the report was controversial and unreliable then used the info against me when I didn’t agree with her. I think the results speak for themselves:

No vibration last night and none again this morning. Two days in a row.

Here’s what it says about the company who performed the hair analysis on the industry Canada web site:

Company Description
Anamol Laboratories was established in 1978. Since that time we service nutritionally oriented health practitioners in North and South America, Europe (U.K., Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Austria) and recently were contacted from Australia.

By using ICAP Emission Spectroscopy, we can get down to the required detection limits for values expressed in ppm (part per million) or in some cases in ppb (part per billion). Our excellent quality control system assures the delivery of dependable, reliable results.

The laboratory is supervised by a Ph.D. biochemist with over 10 years experience as director of the department of Biochemistry of a McGill University affiliated teaching hospital.

The reports, consisting of two parts:

a) The analytical results, including graphic representation, reference values;

b) Interpretation for each element which appears at a value lower or higher than the reference value. The report is available in five languages: English, German, Spanish, French and Italian.

It gives information (the report) about elements in which the person is deficient, or have excess quantities; the presence of toxic elements; certain patterns may indicate metabolic problems like metabolic acidosis, loss of bone- at an earlier stage than it may be detected by either densitometry or X-ray.

  1. I am not a huge fan of hair mineral analysis either. There are too many variables that can impact the results.

    Email me at joy@joyoushealth.ca and tell me what your symptoms are and why leads you to believe you have a magnesium deficiency. As you probably know very well, it is the most potent anti-stress mineral, so if you are under a lot of stress and this is resulting in nervous system complaints, then yes, you should supplements with Mg Citrate.

    Drop me a line when you get a chance. I haven’t read back further to see if you describe what’s going on with your health.
