Diary of Unknown Symptoms

Mystery of the Internal Vibration

Entry for June 10, 2005

With my wife now five months pregnant, we have been reading the book “What to expect when expecting”. It’s a great book and there is a chapter for the dads and some of the changes that may happen to them.

In one of the sections it talks about how the males may have to deal with symptoms from “Sympathy Pregnancy”. This could be interesting… The medical term for it is Couvade Syndrome. Back on the computer to start googling about sympathy pregnancy.

Symptoms of Couvade can include:

  • Variations in appetite
  • Weight Gain
  • Nausea
  • Insomnia
  • Indigestion
  • Diarrhea/Constipation
  • Headaches
  • Toothaches
  • Mood swings
  • Backache
  • Itchy skin
  • Food cravings

It seems that the symptoms are most profound during the third & fourth month then again just as the birth approaches. All symptoms seem to disappear after the birth.

Can’t say I have any of those symptoms although the vibrations did start in the third month of my wife’s pregnancy. Maybe I’ll mention this to the doctor and see what he thinks.

With my new doctor mentioning about the thyroid I took to googling to find out what the symptoms were.

Thyroid Goitre, thyroid bruit, fine tremor, weight loss, increased appetite, lid lag, sweating, heat intolerance, family history, lethargy, weight gain, hoarseness, dry skin, hair loss, cold intolerance, delayed reflex, constipation, short stature.

Fine tremor!!! Whoa!!! Maybe I have been explaining it wrong. Internal vibrations / fine tremor. Maybe he’s right! I do have a cold intolerance but none of the other symptoms. Finally something weird that matches my symptom. After doing some more googling, I found a web site that mentioned a diet to maintain a healthy Thyroid.

EATING TO SUPPORT THE THYROID

Enzymes are substances that make life possible. They are needed for every chemical reaction that takes place in the body. No vitamin, mineral or hormone can do any work without enzymes. The metabolic enzymes run all of our organs, tissues and cells. They build our body from proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. You may have all the raw materials to build the above, but without enzymes you cannot even begin.

What are the best source of enzymes? ORGANIC FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES! You can also take plant based enzymes if you eat too much cooked food but if you are trying to heal your thyroid, you must eat plenty of living organic foods.

Very interesting!! I hardly ever eat any fruits or vegetables. This is making sense. Maybe what I should be doing is eating more fruits and veggies.

Today is the day. All morning I’ve been singing the Beach Boys song “Good Vibrations” although these vibrations aren’t good.

Found the doctor’s office quite easily and the receptionist hands me the generic patient/doctor agreement form. I sign it almost without reading it. Show her my health card and she shows me to one of the small waiting rooms.

I wasn’t really expecting a lot with this first visit. I had my hopes of course but I went in thinking it was more of a formal greeting than an actual check up.

In comes the doctor and he introduces himself, shakes my hand and starts reading the patient form with my medical history. I told him I was looking for a family doctor because I was being bounced around by the walk in clinics. My symptom? Internal vibrations. I showed him the blood test results from the lab, showed him the high blood pressure medication and told him what the previous doctor had said.

He asked if they checked for Thyroid. I wasn’t sure so he suggested starting with a full physical.  I’m 34 years old and never had one so it seemed like a good idea. He said the test results look fine and didn’t think more testing was necessary.

He said that in most cases, internal vibrations were usually stress related. He knew my wife was pregnant so he mentioned about all of the big changes and the added stress a new child can bring.

Although I agreed, I told him I was not the type of person who worries about anything and that I don’t spend an extraordinary amount of time thinking about it.

Scheduled the physical for June 20th. What’s another two weeks of vibrating?
