Diary of Unknown Symptoms

Mystery of the Internal Vibration

Entry for June 03, 2005

Took a vacation day from work today and spent some time looking for a family doctor.  Using the Ontario Doctors web page I filtered using the “Family physicians accepting new patients” in the Oshawa area.

Nothing came up so I tried a few more locations and thought it would be best to find one close to where I live and found one in Courtice. I called them up and the receptionist explained the process.

She told me I needed to pickup an application form and fill it with a complete medical history for the doctor to review. This process usually takes about two weeks depending on his schedule. Then you are called into an interview at which time he decides whether he will accept me as a patient.

So this is the Ontario Health Care system everyone is complaining about. There must be a better way…

I mention this story to my wife and she offered to see if her doctor would accept me as he was only acccepting new patients from family members. She made the call and set up an appointment for June 8th. PERFECT! He has an office in the Don Mills and Lawrence area and there are a lot of retirement homes around there. He has probably seen just about everything so he’s just the person I need.

A bit hard to get to based on my work location but it didn’t matter, I now have a doctor.

Still vibrating but making progress!
